Non sterile 4 x 4 gauze pads are used at bigger size wounds of people or pets. Doctors shall consider the necessity of absorbency before selecting gauze pads. Absorbency of gauze pads are relative to the following factors:

--size of gauze pads

--mesh of gauze

--ply of gauze pads

--amount of gauze pads you use in one time.

Simply speaking, the higher mesh  the gauze is, the higher absorbency you will get.

Looking around the world , we find that there are mainly two groups of gauze pads quality standards, that is, European market standards and American market standards.

European buyers are strict with gauze mesh. 17 mesh gauze , that is, 26*18, 24*20, 25*17 is universal mesh requirement in European medical gauze market. 13 mesh gauze sometimes is accepted but the market share is not big.

Competition in American market for years is severe. Exporters and importers “co-operate” to reduce prices to survive the severe competition.However, the profit of gauze pads and other medical gauze is so thin that when there is requirement to reduce price, the manufactures can do nothing but reduce mesh or even opening size of gauze pads.

One of direct results of such competition is that the absorbency of each piece of gauze pads becomes smaller and smaller. We believe that doctors have to use more gauze pads in one time to secure similar absorbency as before.

Although non sterile 4 x 4 gauze pads can be found in either Europe or American surgical gauze market, they are quite different products.
